A lonely fisherman spends his days and nights scouring the beach, searching for a mysterious figure with a familiar face he spotted many years before.
AESTHETIC
Dull tones, greys, browns and blues. Old/ abandoned atmosphere. Generally quiet and lonely.
Cinematography/ shot types
- Extreme wide shots of the beach
- Tracking shots of character walking
- Close ups of his face and hands - to indicate emotion
When looking for inspiration I generally focused on cinematography and shot types which I wanted to include.

synopsis
Fisherman James Smith lives alone in a small seaside town. Since the passing of his wife he spends his days exploring the town's beach and hillside. One night he is looking out to sea from the rocks on the shore as the sun goes down when he suddenly spots a female figure who strongly resembles his late wife down by the waters edge. He dismisses his vision and turns away but something makes him look again and when glances back over his shoulder she is nowhere to be seen. Following this encounter he makes it his mission to find her again. He goes back to the same spot every day at sunset and scours the length of the beach during the day, hoping to catch another glimpse of her.

Pitch evaluation
My pitch was something that I probably could have put more time into however public speaking ad presentations are something I find very difficult and so I spent a lot of time worrying about it and not much time preparing for it. Having said this I did have a pretty clear idea in my head of what my film would look like and I think this helped me in presenting without a lot of preparation.
The original idea is very much focused on the visual side and doesn't really specify much about the films narrative making it quite difficult to sell to an audience. I think had I been less nervous and given myself more time to prepare I would have refined my idea further and made it a more solid pitch.
I think that maybe if I had done this I could have included things such as character bios, possible locations, a basic storyline or synopsis and a vague idea of the themes involved in the film all of which would have made for a more well rounded proposal.
I think when it came to the actual pitch I was very nervous and this affected my delivery. I definitely didn't manage to speak for the required ten minutes because I was speaking pretty fast and hoping to finish my presentation as soon as possible. If I had slowed down and taken my time to explain each aspect of my pitch in greater detail then I think I would have filled the time limit.
I think that overall my attention to the types of shots and the general style of the film were what made my pitch relatively successful. Because I had a ver specific idea in my head, this made it easier to sell the film to the panel.
